Dam up runs with wax to prevent rapid burning. Immerse wick in wax pool to extinguish instead of blowing out. This creates less smoke and primes it for the next burn time. Drafts, fans, vents and breezes can effect the longevity and flame size. Candle may need to be rotated or moved.
